The Modest CD Player
Put your CD on, then it starts playing music.
コンセプト
「音楽の入ったメディアを再生装置に持っていって聴く」という概念モデルを、そのまま実行できるように設計されたCDプレーヤ。 CDを乗せると演奏を開始し、取り除くと停止する。
バックグラウンドで機械が行っているセンシングと動作のプロセス（デザインモデル）はユーザに隠蔽されているが、ユーザが自身の行為と結果について行う意味付けの認知プロセス（概念モデル）は明快であるため、自動ドアのように、一度使えば二度と間違うことはないだろう。
インタフェースデザインにおいては、分からせることよりも、分かったつもりにさせることが重要である、との考えに基づいている。
Concept
The Modest CD Player is designed based on the quite simple mental model: “I bring the media to player to listen to the music.” It starts playing when CD is put on, and stops when remove.
Its design model, the actual process from sensing CD to playing the music, is invisible. On the other hand, its mental model is so apparent like automatic door that user never misses the way to use.
To design interface, “to make user reckoned he understands” is much better than “to make user understood”.
実装
本体にUSBカメラと、CDが置かれたことを検出するスイッチが内蔵されており、背後に隠されたホストPCのUSBポートに接続されている。 本体の上にCDが置かれるとCDのジャケットを実時間で画像解析し、データベース登録されている画像と照合、何のCDが置かれたかを判断し、 該当する曲を再生する（あらかじめホストPC内に保存されているMP3）ことで動作を実現している。
Implementation
A webcam and a small switch are embedded in stage, which is connected to the PC invisible for user. When CD is put on, the custom-built software running on PC analyzes what that CD is and starts playing the MP3 music file on PC.
